세션 소개
A 20-minute conversation between Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat and Chairman of BitMine, and Youbin Kang of Nonce Classic. Topics include Ethereum's role as distinct from Bitcoin, the link between the AI agent economy and blockchain, how the market misunderstands blockchain value capture, and how Lee views Korea's permissioned security token framework. The speaker's remarks are personal views and not investment advice.
핵심 요약
- Tom Lee described a career spent having "always thought in generation cycles." Lee sees the entire banking industry upgrading to a 21st-century architecture over the next 10 to 20 years, and with AI innovation added, the settlement rails for finance and AI sitting on crypto. Lee said a DAT for Hyperliquid, Zcash, or Solana could have been launched, but Ethereum was chosen as the bet for the next generation.
- Bitcoin is solidifying as a store of value, but that does not make it the best platform to be the settlement rail of the future. As money becomes software, and stocks, bonds, real estate, reputation, and airline points all become forms of money, Lee sees tokenization as a major pillar for Ethereum.
- The second pillar is AI and agentic systems. Citing early days as a telecom analyst, when the first report covered 34 million mobile phones and the number is now 9 billion, Lee said that viewing AI agents as a simple extension of what we do today is "under-imagining what's going to happen."
- Lee said blockchain may be the only way to enforce, in the middle of a transaction, that an AI does what it was asked to do, and to make it stop working or go unpaid if it does not. Because of trust issues and micropayments, AI agents are expected to use crypto wallets instead of traditional bank accounts or cards.
- Viewing gas fees as cash flow is a big misunderstanding of blockchain value capture, Lee said. The biggest driver of the stock market is not earnings (E) but the store-of-value element of the P/E multiple. Asset tokenization and 24/7 trading are only the beginning, and new structures, such as prediction markets, could blur the line between debt and equity. Lee compared Ethereum to "the land or the office building" where all of this takes place.
- On Korea's security token framework, which keeps securities ledgers permissioned, Lee said it is understandable given public policy considerations such as government sovereignty, taxation, and protection of critical industries. But it is not the approach the rest of the world will take, and it will not limit global tokenization. Lee's advice to Korean institutions: in every technology wave, many companies had to disrupt themselves to survive.
